Why WYLDE WELLBEING?
The term ‘wylde’ is old English for wild and untamed (it was also used to mean uncivilised or undisciplined!!).
I like the thought that I’m a Wylde Woman: free and untethered to what is expected of me by others, but to what I choose for myself, and what works for me, for my body, my nervous system and my capacity.
In recent years, I've been redefining what success, leadership and wellbeing looks like for me, after 22 years in public service, I had to let go of my Council CEO role because of my complex and limiting health conditions.
WYLDE WELLBEING MANIFESTO
Wylde is about reclaiming your life from pressure, programming and burnout, and living untamed by expectation.
It is the courage to question the systems and expectations that keep us trapped in force and over-functioning. It is the process of unlearning what we have been told we must be, and returning to what is true.
To live Wylde is not to be chaotic or reckless. It is to live in alignment with your nature rather than operating like a machine.
It means honouring your body, your nervous system and your humanity.
It means building a life that is sustainable across every dimension of wellbeing, represented in my Whole-Wellness™ model.
TOO HARD TO SWALLOW was released in April 2025 and is a self-help memoir about the physical and psychological impact of chronic illness and how I’ve coped, what I’ve learned along the way and how I can help others.
It captures my experiences, moving from illness to wellness and choosing to live well with a long term condition whilst managing symptoms of illness and disability. I can empathise with others as I’ve faced lots of loss, grief, and trauma in my own life too; I’ve experienced birth and death, marriage and divorce, illness and wellness, debt and security, love and loss, and everything in between!
And alongside this lived experience, I'm a qualified, insured and supervised coach, who has set up my coaching practice on the other side of a life turned upside down.

I’m Emily Forbes, founder of Wylde Wellbeing, published author and qualified coach. I spent more than two decades in leadership roles, including nine years as a CEO, before my own experience of chronic illness forced me to rethink everything I believed about pressure, success and wellbeing.
Living with invisible illness changed how I understand health, identity and capacity. It also led me to explore coaching psychology, nervous system science and lifestyle medicine in depth; to pause and question the systems and expectations shaping my life.
Wylde Wellbeing was born from that journey.
I now help women reclaim their lives from pressure, programming and burnout through Whole-Wellness™ coaching that honours the body, the nervous system and the whole human being.
My personal experience, professional training and research led me to a deeper realisation that now sits at the heart of my work - my Whole-Wellness™ model.
This recognises that wellbeing cannot be understood in fragments. Our health and capacity are shaped by the interaction between our physical health, mental patterns, emotional world, relationships, environment and sense of purpose. Instead of focusing on one isolated issue, this model takes a full-circle, 360-degree view of your life and wellbeing.
It helps us understand the patterns shaping your stress, energy and capacity so that meaningful and sustainable change becomes possible.
